On A Dime Transformations Workbook | 2021 - 2022
“On A Dime Transformations aims to provide a journey of self-realization that empowers people in recovery to find the value within themselves and to create their own path to a purpose-driven career.” (onadime.ca)
This workbook, along with its accompanying guidebook, were to serve as the primary learning materials for OAD’s Career Discovery Program. Concise yet impactful was what that the founders’ were looking for in the design. Emphasis was also placed on accessibility, making the content beneficial to those with a lower level of education as well as neurodivergent participants. As such, many thought was put into the colour scheme as well as font choice; maximizing readability while trying to prevent users from becoming overwhelmed. I fought for the generous use of white space, only including images when they would be most needed.
Dealing with an unexpected change in scope - OAD Online
Understanding the need for the change was the first step. In our case, it was due to the increase of online classes because of the pandemic. It allowed us to expand our audience.
Steps I took to address the changes:
I researched and took part in online classes (Thinkific - 321 Marketing) to understand what unique benefits and challenges were involved when creating online classes. This allowed us (myself, alongside our Program Designer and Director of Program Delivery) to adapt the content for this new environment.
Of course, this also meant an increased workload which really started to weigh down on me at one point. I solved this by planning ahead, defining priorities and personal goals for myself. Setting personal boundaries was also important. I found that discussing the above with supervisors/teammates allowed us to make compromises and allowed for a smoother process.

Results: Career efficacy scores increased by 48%, with 73% of participants employed or in school within 30 days of completing the program.
