Taqwa

An Islamic concept for being conscious of God, of truth, “piety, fear of God.”

The biggest challenge was visualizing a logo for such an abstract concept. My first instinct was to base the design on the Arabic script for the word “taqwa.” The problem with this though was that not everyone can read Arabic. With a target demographic consisting of new Muslims and Muslims trying to reconnect to their faith, this could be seen as confusing or even a turn off. A compromise was using Kufic script. A type of calligraphy that simplifies the Arabic letters into basic rectangular shapes evocative of pixel art. This creates a pattern that is distinctly Islamic while appealing to anyone whether they can read Arabic or not. The diamond near the top represents the Qibla (direction of prayer) or a compass leading one in the right direction. The colours were selected based on aesthetic preference alone, but conveniently aligned with the company values based on psychology that can commonly be found online.
